The Golden Axe series has been completely re-imagined for this rendition, and new visuals and skills help bring it up to date. Players take on the role of Tyrsis Flare on her quest for vengeance, who must fight her way through wave upon wave of creatures and beasts. Tyrsis can battle either on foot or whilst riding huge monsters, tackling opponents with swords, magic and other varied weaponry. Combat is brutal and violent, with axes and blunt arms joining more traditional magical powers as enemies are mutilated and dismembered. Spells can all be upgraded and developed as the game progresses, each based around a different elemental power.

The world of Beast Rider is vast, and players are free to explore the ravaged, harsh environment at their leisure. Along their journey, Golden Axe fans will find well-known friends and opponents from earlier entries in the series, and new storyline details will reveal the events before the first Golden Axe.

The Golden Axe series has stood the test for time with its brutal combat, but moves into the modern era with this new expansive adventuring style.
